Truckee River Fishing Report 7/19/13

Fishing is good here on the Truckee River in Reno-Tahoe-Truckee, that is, if you get on it early. Mornings to mid-mornings are best, as it is hot again in the afternoons. It is about 90 every afternoon in the Hirsch, and hotter down through the canyons into Reno. If you come and fish go early, if you book a trip your best bet is to to a half day, or do a six hour day. I won’t even take you out in the afternoon. If I wanted to feel like a guide in Redding, I’d a moved there. I’m booked this month anyways, but next month should be the same, and I do have openings going into the second week. I have been fishing both sides of the border, and both sides have been good. I’ll repeat this record again, fish the fast water, take off the bobber if you need too, and get yourself some. Crays, stones, and caddis, are getting ‘er done. Hoppers have been out, and there are a ton of baitfish scooting around in the shallow water. The nymph clinic is full and has been for sometime. Look for a stillwater clinic with Doug O and I at 5 dot ranch in September. That’s right, I said, stillwater. Haven’t really fished much of it since my days at Milton and Martis. Doug will be grooming me from now until then so I know what the hell I’m talking about. 5 dot is one of the best lakes in the West. We’ll camp, fish, drink and hang out, should be fun.
