Storms systems moving into the Lake Tahoe-Truckee-Reno area. We picked up a foot overnight on the summit with more on the way Friday. Good, good news for the Truckee River watershed. Flows have come up to about 420 cubes here in the Hirsch, and they will get higher with the next system. It’s coming in as snow, the river shouldn’t get to high, but should rise a bit more. The Truckee’s been up for the last three weeks, yes California is an a epic drought, but the Truckee River is fine. Of course we need more snow, at least for now, we’re ok up in my neck of the woods. 420 cfs is pretty average for this time of year on the river. The fishing has been fair to good this last week. Water temps are still on the cold side, remember it’s still winter. It may be in the 70’s in the valley, but it’s still in the teens- to low 20’s at night up here. We are coming into two great months to fish the Truckee though, March and April. Water temps will slowly warm with the longer days, and the bugs will be out. Blue wings are already here in the lower sections, (East of Reno), and I’ve seen a few skwalas in Reno. I think we are going to have some awesome spring fishing this year, and it should start next week.
