Truckee River Fishing Report 4-26-14

Cold and snow and rain and wind this week on the Truckee River. More seasonable actually than the 70’s we had the prior month before. Spring is usually nasty, wind, snow, rain, and it just feels colder than winter when the weather is like that this time of year. As far as the fishing, pretty above average for almost May. The river should be blown from run-off, but not this year. The lower -lower stuff is a bit swollen, but nothing like a normal snow year. We haven’t been getting fish -numbers wise, but big fish yes, spring is the time. Streamers-nymphing, that’s what the big fish like. The dry fly fishing this week was good on overcast days. March browns and blue wings galore. May should be great. This weekend is general trout season opener. Everything is open now to fish, the hwy 89 section of the river, Martis Lake, Milton, etc. Get on the smaller creeks and tribs and lakes before they dry up.
