Nymph Clinic-Truckee River Fishing Report 5-6-14

Don’t forget, Doug O and I will have a nymph clinic this Saturday in Hirschdale on the Truckee RIver. We have a few spots left.

Wind and more wind this last weekend into yesterday on the Truckee River. Makes it very hard to fish in those conditions. The wind has laid down, and we can get serious again this week. Flows are still up below Boca. Above the inlet of the Little Truckee flows are pretty average. Average for this time of year would be full on pumping, when I mean average, I’m talking like, mid-summer flows. Clarity is not really in issue anywhere you go on the river unless go very low, say through the Nature Conservancy water in Nevada. The fishing will be good this week, march browns, blue wings, pmds, spring caddis. Everything will pop early this year, look out for green drakes shortly as well as some big wing carpenter ants. Our big caddis hatches will get going probably by the end of this month. Nymphing with any of the above pattens will get you fish. Attractor patterns are very good in spring as well. Princes, hares ears, copper johns, etc. The streamer fishing is good now too. Looks like nice spring weather for a while.
