Truckee River Fishing Report 1-7-15

Not to much going on in the way of weather. If you like nice sunny days in the middle of winter then this is the time to come and fish the Truckee River. High pressure is still parked off the coast of California keeping the days warm and the nights cold. Good reliable fishing for this time of year up here. Winter = big fish. When you catch fish in winter on the Truckee River they’re usually bigger type fish. The whole river is in pretty good shape, flows wise that is, and both sides of the river Ca, and Nevada are fishing good. Fish the slower stuff and walk past the fast stuff. Fish like to spend their time in the slower currents this time of year. Not to much going on in the way up top, but the nymph game is good to go.

Zebras, smaller baetis patterns, stones, eggs, worms, all the usual winter type flies all work. For swinging, I like some kind of bunny type cone head fly up top, think slump buster or something. I add a big prince, rubber legs, or larger G-6 off the back. Winter is a great time for swinging with the switch as most of the fish are concentrated in the slower deeper stuff.

Remember you can still take advantage of my winter rates until the end of this month. One spot left for the swing/ switch clinic on the 24th, and a few for out Pyramid Lake clinic at the end of this month.
