Truckee-Tahoe Area Fishing Report-5-23-15

Rain rain and more rain, hard to believe after this shitty winter, but every year it rains or snows on Memorial Day Weekend, every year. The Truckee River has come up a bit with the rain, not much, but a bit. It does buy some time and helps put a lot of water in the creeks that empty into the Truckee River.

Good fishing is going on right now. Good dry fly fishing, good tight lining, streamer, everything. Not sure how long we will have water in the river, but like I say this rain is awesome up here, and has lengthened the inevitable for a while longer.

I don’t like to post reports on the Little Truckee River, but flows are great out there and will be for some time. The dry fly fishing will be getting going way earlier than normal out there this year. Look for pmds, and green drakes to arrive soon. 30 cfs is the minimal flow that has to be maintained on the LT, so that at least is good news.

Lakes like Milton and Jackson Meadows have been fishing good. Jackson Meadows is filled to the brim, go figure. Calibaetis have already been going off on both lakes and some nice fish are being caught. Leeches on slime line, or midges under a bobber work good too.

The North Fork of the Yuba will be shaping up nicely in the next few weeks. If you like to fish dry flies this is a great river. Golden stones and everything else, caddis, pmds, all sorts of things fly around down there. Easy fishing unlike the Truckee River, in a pretty amazing landscape. Set up a tight line rig and you can some good numbers of fish.

All Those places I will be guiding on along with the Lower Yuba River too. Yes, the Lower Yuba River. Hoppers, and caddis in the evening out there in the summer, tight line fishing too, something not a lot of folks do on that river.

There are a lot of other options within about an hour to an hour and a half from Truckee and some pretty awesome fishing to boot.

All in all, the fishing in our area is still really good.
