Truckee River Fishing Report-9-12-16

A lot more like fall fishing and less like summer on the Truckee River.

Flows have dropped on the lower sections of river below Boca, but are up on the upper stretch below Donner Lake. About 240 cfs here in the Hirsch, and 150 around Glenshire. 200s’ ain’t bad. About 150 through most of Reno. It’s pretty much fall and flows historically get low on the Truckee River. It could be way lower, like the last 2 years low. Good news is that fishing is pretty darn good. Dawn patrol streamer fishing will get you fish before the sun hits the water. Nymphing will get you fish when the sun gets up. Lots of small baitfish and crayfish for the streamers and crayfish and baetis for the nymphs. Some big fish have been poked this week, and the fishing should stay good right into fall.

The Little Truckee River is still a dismal 30 cfs.

I think everyone is excited about the opener out at Pyramid Lake. A little over 2 weeks away. It will fire off for the first week, get slow again, and hopefully we can get some winter weather by the end of October to get those big cutts going and in close.
