Truckee River Brown Trout

Truckee River Fly Fishing Report-6-25-17

Flows are slowly dropping on the Truckee River opening up much more water.

Just about 2,000 cfs here in the Hirsch. We haven’t seen that since March.

Major heat have too. Haven’t seen temps like this in a long while. It’s been over 90 down here and in the canyons though Reno for a solid week. Not much change in the weather next week up here either. You’re best fishing will be early to mid-morning and again very late. Hike up and down those railroad tracks at 2 p.m. and you will understand.

So nymping is still king, but I have seen some fish looking up. Never know if one will pop up on a big foamy dry this time of year. There are golden stones, green drakes, and all kinds of bugs out. I think we should have a good caddis hatch this week, especially if the water keeps dropping. The big fish are getting a little harder to find. Kinda always that way every summer. Little fish get a lot more active though which is a good thing if you want to hook a few.

Exciting to see the flows finally mellowing. It’s been a long time of fishing in these high flows. It will be fun to get back and fishing in some normal flows.
