Truckee River Fishing Report-1-16-18

Cold and snow on the way.

Hopefully we can start building up a snowpack for The Truckee River system.

I’ve been down in the desert floating/guiding a lot. We’ve had some good days and slow days down on the Truckee River in Nevada. Not a ton of fish like before the drought, but fish and some good ones. I have to remind myself its the middle of winter and getting fish to eat sometimes is not that easy. When its cold you have to wake them up and its been really cold this week in the mornings lowering the water temps. Seems like they moved back into the frog water. More bugs pop’n on the NV side though. Feb and March can see some big blue wing hatches through the Nature Conservancy. It will be interesting to see how the dry fly fishing will be.

Going into this weekend it looks to be cold and snow and wind. Not sure how much the river will come up with these systems. Probably not the best conditions to wet a line. Next week looks to be stormy too. Finally some real winter weather where you have small windows of good fishing, and lots of freeze your ass off ice in the guides days.

Flows are great on both sides of the river.
