Truckee River Fishing Report-3-5-18
Snow and lots of it this last weekend for the Truckee River.
Some places up top got close to 7 feet from the 3 day storm. We got almost 3 feet here in the Hirsch. 5 feet was about the average for Tahoe. Lifesaving snow for our watershed.
Clearing out and warming up this week and we can get back to doing some fishing again. High’s will get back into the 40’s and 50’s and 60’s in Reno. Springtime fishing for now. I do think we’ll have some more storms though by months end.
Think skwalas, blue wing olives, and midges when nymphing. We will start seeing some descent dry fly fishing in the coming weeks and months. The streamer fishing will get going good too as the water will start to warm some. Flows have come up to about perfect for both sides of the river. I’ll still be down in Nevada tossing streamers from the raft, but I like March on the California side too. Daylight savings is next weekend, so shit, spring is pretty much here. Spring is the time to bang those big Truckee River trouts.
Remember I have a streamer clinic on March 17th, spots are open.
